Project Overview

From classrooms to healthcare simulation spaces, the newly completed TAFE Bankstown campus is illuminated by a comprehensive lighting solution delivered by Novon Lighting for TAFE NSW.

Spanning eight floors, the project required a highly coordinated lighting response across offices, classrooms, hair and nail salons, meeting rooms, kitchen and breakout areas, and hospital and nursing home practical learning spaces. Each environment demanded a tailored approach while maintaining performance consistency across the entire facility.

Delivered in collaboration with RW Palmer (Electrical Contractor), Schiavello (Builder) and Steensen Varming (Consultant), the project reflects the importance of precision engineering and adaptability within complex education environments.

Lighting Scope

The diversity of spaces required lighting solutions that could support:

  • Administrative and office environments
  • Teaching and classroom spaces
  • Specialist hair and nail training salons
  • Healthcare simulation and practical learning areas
  • Meeting rooms and collaborative spaces
  • Kitchens and breakout zones

Balancing functional performance, visual comfort and architectural integration across eight levels was central to the brief.

Custom Solutions & Engineering

Several custom solutions were developed to meet architectural and ceiling requirements across multiple levels.

Custom Dynamix pendants with round end caps and custom Organix pendants were produced to align with the interior aesthetic. Custom Oynx Slim and Linea Slim troffers were manufactured with surface mount boxes to integrate precisely within ceiling troughs.

A key challenge involved adapting Oynx and Linea Slim to specific trough dimensions. Each fitting was engineered to exact ceiling specifications to ensure seamless integration and a clean architectural finish.

All troffers supplied were Australian made, reinforcing local manufacturing capability while meeting tight project requirements.

Delivery

The project was delivered within 12 weeks of order receipt, meeting programme deadlines across a complex, multi-use campus environment.

TAFE Bankstown demonstrates how flexible design, custom manufacturing capability and coordinated project delivery can support a broad spectrum of learning and practical training environments within a single facility.
